Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko – Touwa Erio – Kotobukiya – 1/8 PVC Figure

Sometimes I see a figurine from a series that I have not watched and I still need to get them. This is your perfect example. I mean, first things first, its a loli, she has blue hair and she is super cute. When something like this happens its pretty difficult to hold back from wanting to get them all, in this characters case we did get a burned a little bit. For some reason Touwa Erio has exploded onto the figurine scene. There has been times in the past where I have purchased the first figurine that came out and then better versions of the same character came out afterwards. This was almost the case with this figurine.

As I am sure a lot of you know, this cute loli is from Denpa Onna To Seishun Otoko. As I have previously stated I have not actually seen the anime so it will be hard for me to talk to the quality of the character being captured. Since this figurine was released by Kotobukiya, I knew that if I got this one I could not be disappointed, however I am not a fan of the “sitting on the desk” figurines. This figurine we got from Hobby Search which is our normal provider and we got it for about 75 dollars.

First things first I gotta say, this character is adorable. I agonized for weeks on end about all the other figures of her that were released and it just was not in our budget to actually get them. We do try not to get TOO many figurines of 1 character as we do like to have at least 1 character from each series we watch. Hmmm that didn’t come out right, what I’m trying to say is like Bakamonogatari for example, we have a figurine of every character except for Araragi and his sisters. So we try to avoid having 3-5 of the same character with no other characters from the anime. This character almost broke that rule for me.

The character itself is sculpted well, as you would expect from Kotobukiya, all the fine details are done exceptionally well, I do not see any paint bleed on this at all. She has her fingernails and toenails painted which is a nice touch as well.

While this figurine itself does not have really any extreme levels of detail which would make it difficult to do it still captures a playful essence in it quite well mostly from the pose. I love the way she has her arm reaching out towards you while her other hand is on the back edge of the desk, the way her cloths are ruffled just adds to the overall cute factor of this figurine. I have to admit when i first got it, I was not THAT into it but as I sit here reviewing it in more detail, I can’t help but have it grow on me a little more with each passing second.

I am still struggling with her face however, I am not 100% sure if I like it or not. We do have another figurine of her already as well and I do enjoy the facial expression on our other one more then this one. The other one we have is by PLUM, maybe Dinara can take a snap of it as well. While I don’t think there is exactly anything “wrong” with the expression it just looks to me like her eyes are a little bit to narrowed, I think that is whats really bothering me about it. She really does have a cute face though.

So as I’m sure you have already noticed, this is a figurine that is sitting on a desk. I am not a big fan of figurines that do this, however I can say one of the positives about this would be that its next to impossible for the figurine to lean and bend over time. This case, it is actually done quite well. Her hand on the back actually does fit in so snug that it helps to stabilize the figurine, considering how that’s part of her pose I gotta give that aspect of this figurine a giant two thumbs up. The fact that they were able to help stabilize the figurine and make that part of the actual pose of the figurine? masterful. My biggest pet peeve with a figurine that’s either kneeling on a base or sitting on a table/chair/desk is the risk of it falling over. While this one does still carry the risk, it is lessened greatly by this addition.

Overall this figurine is done well, there is subtle things that you really wouldn’t notice without stopping to think about it such as the way the cloths are clinging to the body which adds a nice definition to her form and a bit of complexity to the figurine itself. The hair seem on this character is almost nonexistent as well which makes me happy. The figurine really does flow well, if it wasn’t for the eyes I would probably rate this pretty high up on my list of loli figurines. As it stands however, it does have some pretty steep competition as well that I have not seen the anime. I will give this figurine an 82%. While it does have some very strong points like its sculpting and good attention to detail. I would of liked to see a little bit more complexity on it and her eyes just bother me a bit.

Let us know what you think, maybe after I watch the anime I will notice the eyes are done as an animation style, however on our other figurine they do seem to be better. I leave you will another random AMV that has nothing to do with this figurine! =D

  1. Hmm, she looks nice. I generally don’t get more than one figure per character either, but as I’ve only got a prize figure of Erio, I have been thinking of getting another one, and this one seems the most likely (given that all other figures of her have either sold out, are too expensive or have severe quality issues). Personally I really like the little desk and it’s good to hear she clamps down on it naturally. Her eyes don’t really bother me (though the Plum version does capture the face better), but I think her mouth looks a little off though. Guess that might look better in person.

The show itself is pretty fun btw. You should watch it, it’ll only make you like Erio more.

  2. This lovely Erio, in the end I passed on her in favour of Ques Q’s Erio later this year, as well as picking PLUMs version when it was released.

Still pretty neat figure, but for me there was something a little bit off with the face, not quite sure what though.

  3. I love all of the Erio figures, if I actually had the money to get them all, I would. I was actually pretty close to getting the Kotobukiya one, but in the end I decided not to because her face didn’t seem right.
